In winter, the entire route decides whether a ride makes sense: road, view, tyres and your condition count just as much as the battery. Plan for cold days with less range and have an alternative if conditions are not suitable for two wheels.
Before the first cold morning
Check light, tyres, brakes and the intended tyres. A scooter that barely creates the daily route in the summer may offer too little reserve for the winter. Compare your observations over several cold days and don't plan a trip until the shutdown.
Preparing the Charging Place
Let a cooled battery come to room temperature before charging and observe the manufacturer's temperature limits. Load dry, far from combustible material and not while you're sleeping. Do not use or charge a damaged battery. More about this is in our Battery guide.
Evaluate tyres and road conditions together
Check tyre pressure according to manufacturer specification and pay attention to cracks, damage and eye-catching profile wear. For a tyre change we need the exact size and the model. The selection must fit the rim, load capacity, speed and released design.
Also suitable winter tyres does not make icy roads safe. In case of ice or snow, it is often more useful to leave the scooter. On wet markings, metal covers and foliage the adhesion ratios can change strongly. Reduce your speed early and avoid abrupt steering or braking movements.
Keep visible and mobile
Clean lights and mirrors. Choose clothing that keeps you visible and does not restrict your movements. With gloves you must be able to reach brake levers and controls safely. A foggy visor or stiff fingers are reasons to interrupt the ride and fix the problem.
After rides with salt and wet
Remove dirt gently according to operating instructions. Do not direct a high-pressure beam to electrical connections, bearings or seals. Place the scooter so that it can dry. Investigate easily accessible areas for damage without opening covers of electrical assemblies.
When you pause over winter
Prepare the service life using the instructions: clean scooter, suitable storage space and a recurring check date for the battery. Write down the recommended stock loading condition and the maintenance due before the start of the season. So the preparation in spring does not go down.
